Cecelia Wetherby, known to the students as Mrs. Wetherby, looked around her classroom for perhaps the 10th time in a row. Today was her first class, and she was nervous, to say the least. She didn't know how much the students knew about art, but hoped she could figure out by letting them draw on their own. Normally, she was energetic and lively, almost bouncing off the walls. She glanced down at her colorful clothing with a smock over it, and shrugged. The rest of the teachers seemed to try and be drab and boring in business clothes - she just wore a notch above casual. She believed that if she wanted to be comfortable in the classroom that comfortable clothes would help.
She glanced at the watch on her right wrist, pushing her small glasses up the bridge of her nose. It was almost time for class, but that didn't mean she couldn't draw a little to get warmed up. She brought her sketch pad from her desk, and a pack of pencils and an eraser, though she knew she wouldn't need it. Her ability was very helpful with art, and she wondered about the adolescents that had signed up for her class. There were five students that cared about art enough to sign up. She was curious to see if any of them had any abilities in art or were just signing up because they were naturally good at it.
In her mind, she pictured green rolling hills, perhaps a pasture. The sky was blue with a few stray clouds here and there, and there was a small herd of four horses and a foal standing on one of the rises. Their manes blew in the breeze, and the stallion, the leader of the herd, held up his head proudly. She sketched the bare outline lightly on the paper. Then, satisfied, she proceeded to to add a little more detail here and there. She didn't check her watch or the clock, so she lost track of the time and didn't realize that class was supposed to be starting...

Catlynn entered the room just after class started, grimacing as he noticed the clock, but soon saw that the teacher didn't even seem to notice, and relaxed a little. He noticed the other kids situated and talking amongst themselves, going over to the desk and offering a pleasant smile to the young woman drawing, "That's really good, it's no wonder you're teaching this class." He wasn't trying to suck up, his natural 'air' of enchantment that he couldn't turn off usually did that much for him, he was just the type to offer a compliment whenever he first met someone.

Cecelia looked up, shocked and surprised at how quickly the time had passed. She looked around and saw other students filing into the classroom. "Oh, it's time for class," She said, surprised. She gave the polite boy a small smile. "Thanks. I've been drawing for years, so I guess I'm pretty good." She motioned to an empty desk, one of many, and invited him to sit down and get comfortable. This was it. She was going to start a teaching career with gifted students. "So, hi. I'm Mrs. Wetherby," She gave a little wave.
Nero swore under his breath as he rushed into class, noting that the other five people were already there. He was a few minutes late, having had to run back up to his dorm to return the textbooks he was supposed to be working on. He saw Catlynn, and joined him quickly, just as the teacher finished saying her name. Mrs. Wetherby, she had said. "Sorry I'm late.."
Cece looked up at the interuption and shrugged at the boy. "That's fine. It happens to all of us. Now, as I was saying, let's go over names. I'm new here, so I don't know your names. I already told you mine."

Catlynn nodded to Cecelia's remarks and soon took his seat as she introduced herself. He glanced over to Nero as he came shuffling in, giving him a small smile in greeting as he sat down before turning his attention back to the teacher. As some of the other kids introduced themselves, he listened intently to memorize the names of those he didn't already know.
When it came to him, he was more than happy to introduce himself, despite the fact that most of the students knew who he was, "I'm Catlynn Snow, people tend to call me Cat and uh...I guess I've been drawing for a few years now."

Cecelia nodded at the kids that had already introduced themselves, and looked over at the last one. She blinked, glancing over the class again. There were six students, when only five had signed up. "You are... signing up late?" She asked the new student.
Nero looked up as the teacher addressed him. He nodded and leaned back in his chair. "Me? Oh, yeah. Cat and I were drawing, and he told me about the art class he was taking. So I decided to check it out... You don't mind?" He paused, then added, "Oh, I'm Nero by the way. Been drawing for the, I don't know, past year and a half." His tone of voice suggested he was asking a question.
Cecelia shook her head. "I don't mind. The more the merrier. So welcome to art class peoples. I think for today, I'll just let you free draw and see your style and everything." She looked around the classroom. "Let's see, the paper is over there on the shelf, and the pencils, pens, markers, paintbrushes et cetera are over there." She motioned to a cabinet. "Let's get going."

"Awesome, free draw." Cat grinned, that always being his favorite thing to do in art school. It meant having all the tools and resources of an art class, but also the freedom to do whatever you wanted. He gave Nero an encouraging smile as he got to his feet, heading over to the cabinet to get himself a large piece of paper, along with some charcoals, a pencil and gummy erasers before returning to his seat. He always preferred portraits, as it allowed him to put more detail into his favorite aspects of the human body: the eyes, lips, and hair.
Already he got started on the initial framework, drawing out an oval lightly with a pencil, adding in the structural lines for the eyes, nose, mouth and ears, as well as directionality and a little circle in the corner to depict a light source.

Nero watched Cat get up before he could ask him to get some paper for him too. He sighed, smiling slightly, and followed the other boy. He grabbed a medium sized peice and looked through the assortment of pens. He tested a few on his hand before picking out the ones with the most ink and points. He returned to Catlynn, watching the other person sketching an oval. Nero suspected that the drawing was to become a person, and his suspicion was correct as he saw the lines for the features. He let out a sigh, wishing he could draw faces that easily, then set to work on his own drawing.
He paused for a moment, considering what to draw. He decided to draw a wolf pack, hunting together in the forest. In his mind it was a good scene, portraying teamwork and companionship, and it was more on the challenging side. He sketched out the basic outline, a few tree trunks and the wolves' bodies attacking the frantic doe. He glanced back over at Cat. "Are you basing that off anyone?"

Catlynn was quite invested in his drawing, putting all of his focus into it as he began to carefully draw in the almond-shaped eyes, a little bud of the nose, the lips. He added more definition into the ears, narrowing the chin a bit and defining the jaw and skull. By the time Nero spoke to him, he already had the charcoals in hand, beginning the shade the skin with great detail, adding in more definition to the features as well.
He glanced at Nero as he heard his question, noticing the beginnings of his drawing and smiled at the development so far. "My mom, I guess." he replied with a casual smile, not so embarrassed about it as some teenagers might be. He was good at remembering faces, even down to the tiniest wrinkles or imperfections, so even though he hadn't seen his mother in a while, he could remember her well. "What're you drawing?"

Nero had glanced away for a moment as he waited for Catlynn's reply. When he heard the other boy's voice, he turned back to look at him, and noticed that his drawing was already pretty far. He was beginning with the charcoals, and he saw the effort he was putting into the drawing of his mother. "That's nice." He said before looking back at his own bare sketch. "This will turn out to be a pack of wolves hunting a deer." He wasn't ashamed about the bloodiness of his drawing, and he shrugged, turning his attention back to the outline. He drew each of the wolves carefully, lightly, then made the lines he was keeping bolder. He paused, looking at it, then continued once more.
Cecelia was moving around from table to table, watching each group draw. As she neared Catlynn's and Nero's table, she knew she had two good artitists. She watched Catlynn draw first, noting how he shaded the face with care. "Very good," She complimented him.

"Ah cool." Catlynn replied to Nero's idea, eyeing him work another moment, seeing the wolves beginning to take shape, before turning his attention back to his drawing. He wasn't entirely fond of the bloodiness, but wasn't disgusted by it or anything, either. Art was art. He continued on his own piece, focusing especially on the eyes to get them just right. He used the nail of his thumb to chisel down the point of one charcoal stick, enabling him to add in thin, natural detail to the iris' of the eyes, as well as along the lower eyelid.
He glanced up as he heard Cecelia's compliment, smiling to her appreciatively, "Thanks." he chimed, always appreciating the praise, and soon returned to his work, starting then on the hair.

Nero glanced up as he heard the teacher's voice, but realized she wasn't talking to him. He continued drawing - adding a few more details, the fear in the doe's eyes, the wolf's claws, scars on the alpha's back. He started sketching the fur, and he turned his attention to the trees. He drew some branches and light marked the general area of the leaves on the branches.
Cecelia turned to Nero, watching him draw. He seemed to favor pen while his companion prefered charcoal. She watched him sketch and how his picture was beginning to come to life. "Very good. Both of you."
He looked up as he heard her voice again. He gave her a small smile and nodded at her compliment.

Catlynn by that point was finishing up with the hair and starting to shade it. He went over the lighter lines again to darken the outline, and fill in a bit of the darkest areas, before starting the deliberate, careful strokes of the hair strands. He was careful to keep the flow centered in one direction, as well as adding depth without making it appear 2-dimensional.
He glanced up again as Cecelia praised both of them, offering another smile before turning his attention to Nero's work again. As it was developing a lot more now, he could see how well Nero drew animals and wildlife, he was impressed.

Cece walked away, having seen how the students drew/painted. She returned to her desk and looked out at them for a moment, remembering names. Then she returned her attention to her own sketch.
Nero saw Cat looking at his own drawng and moved his arm out of the way. He looked over at his friend's portrait, noticing the depth and careful shading. He was impressed. He looked at Catlynn. "Wow, that's pretty good." He would have smudged the charcoal by now. Nero looked back at his own drawing, deciding which part to work on. The wolves were pretty solid, so he decided to work on the doe. He drew some claw and teeth marks where the wolves' claws and teeth had punctured her side. Trying not to be too gory, he drew a few drops running down her raised neck. He focused more on the head now, opening her mouth in alarm and making her look fearful.

Cat watched briefly after their teacher as she returned to her desk, before his attention was once again on Nero. He smiled appreciatively to his compliment, "Thanks." he chimed, though was honestly more impressed by Nero. It was lucky enough that he happened to walk past and notice the boy's stray doodles on his papers, or he wouldn't have even been here. It seemed he was far more talented than he let off initially.
He watched him draw for a short while, as Nero focused on the detail of the doe. He had to admit he didn't like the scene, considering he grew up in a commune where 90% of the inhabitants were vegetarian animal-rights activists. But it was well done, and the emotion was there, so he could appreciate the thought process. His own drawing was mostly complete, save for the highlights and a few imperfections that needed to be erased.

Nero looked up and grinned at Cat, accepting the compliment with ease. He paused in his work, looking around the classroom. The other students were all busy with their own drawings, and he saw Cecelia at her desk. Her head was bent over her task - supposedly a drawing of her own. He tilted his head slightly to the side: it appeared that art teachers drew sometimes as well. It wasn't unexpected, really. The boy looked back at his own drawing. He added yet more detail to the forest floor and filled in the spaces where the leaves were. He was mostly done with the animals, which were the main focus of his work. Once he had finished that, Nero leaned back in his chair, examining his own work. It was better than his doodles because he had actually tried, and he looked over at Cat's drawing. It was nearly finished.
